The Hungarians have protected the Hungarian summer black truffle at the European level, obtaining protected geographical indication status. The Italians have protected geographical indication for the Borgotaro porcini mushroom (Fungo di Borgotaro), and if the Istrians succeed in protecting the European white truffle, it would be the third case in Europe of obtaining protected geographical indication for a mushroom.
In Hungary, we will speak with people who have successfully completed the protection procedure. What we want is to obtain first-hand information about possible obstacles in this process, experience that will help us in the process of protecting the Istrian white truffle.
